The wish list of books to read is long, too long to finish. That does not stop me from continuing to add to my list.
Give me a good book, a comfy place to site, a cool drink (or warm depending on the weather), and I am content for hours. I was known as a bookworm as a kid. My parents had to hide my books and force me to go outside to play. I was very happy imagining the world in which my characters lived. I wanted to ride with Nancy Drew in her car, snuggle under a warm quilt with the March sisters in Little Women, solve a mystery with Hercule Poirot, and have adventures with Anne of Green Gables. I could travel through time and around the world without leaving home when I was immersed in my books. To this day I still love reading.
I could not wait for the summer reading program to begin each year. I wanted to meet the goal to attend the year end summer party before anyone else. I do not think I was every first, because I also wanted to read the books with the most pages. I am sure if page count was part of the summer program I would be number one. I also enjoyed trips to the library with my sister and my Dad during the summer. (I think my mom sent us out of the house to have some peace and quiet after being with us all day). We would browse the library for what seemed like minutes, but was easily over an hour and close down the library. An occasionally the library trip would end with an ice cream treat.
Today I still love to read and I am happy to say that my kids are readers as well. When my son was in fourth grade and reading chapter books, I asked him to suggest books I should read so we could have something to discuss. Now both my son and daughter suggest books for me to read and through them I have discovered the world of Percy Jackson, Katniss Everdeen and Harry Potter. (Ok I admit I started reading Harry Potter before they were born, but I finished the series with them). For fun I read cozy mysteries (especially those with recipes or craft projects), however I do read non fiction as well to continue to expand my horizons. My every growing book list is so large I know have started a board on Pinterest to capture all my ideas: https://www.pinterest.com/digitalfusionva/digital-fusion-bookshelf/
Will I ever finish reading everything on my list, no, but I will keep on reading.
